Great Gift Ideas for Readers
We have to admit that we can’t actually give the one gift any bookworm would love to receive: a cozy reading nook and unlimited reading time. (Who really can give that, anyway?) But we’ve still got tons of great gifts for book lovers of all stripes. That includes readers and writers!
Our extensive research has shown that gifts for book lovers fall into two basic categories:
1) Books
2) Not Books.
Look, we said the categories were basic. Good thing they're anything but boring!
Books
Yeah, we know this one’s kinda obvious, but hear us out. Picking out a fiction book for someone else can be super difficult, and that’s even if you know their preferred genre. Will they like it? Have they *gasp* already read it? You want to give a great, memorable gift. What to do?
Goodly to the rescue! We’ve got some amazing non-fiction books in stock! Self-help books (like Am I Overthinking This?, above) abound, as well as books full of campfire stories, unique history books, poetry written by Cats, quirky food and cocktail recipe books and lots more. Make sure to take a look at all our book offerings! We bet you can find one your reader will love.
Not Books
Like we said, buying a book for a reader or bookworm can be a bit of a minefield. While we’ve got all those fun non-fiction books, we’ve also got tons of great gifts for readers and writers that aren’t books at all!
Tote Bags

Readers need something stylish to carry all their books around in! We find these cute tote bags work great for bookstore hauls, as well as used book sales and trips to the library. Best of all, we carry tote bags in multiple shapes and sizes, in themes ranging from pets to food to social justice. Some are even made from recycled materials!
Pens & Pencils
Some people view a book almost like a sacred object, to be kept clean from dirt, ink and folded pages. Others view reading as more of an interactive experience and are known to highlight passages and jot notes in the margins (although the subject of folding pages is remarkably divisive. Our opinion? You do you, we will not judge.)
Whether you write in your books or keep a hand-written TBR list, we think your writing utensil should show off some personality! We’ve got pens and pencils for just about everyone, too. Some are funny, some are attention getters, and some are as useful as they are gorgeous. A small gift that makes a big difference, we can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t be excited to receive one of these pen or pencil sets!
Journals
OK, these are technically books. Blank books! And they can be used for journaling as well as more mundane tasks like list keeping and general life scheduling. But if you are a reader who longs to write, a blank notebook is a great place to start.
First of all, George Lucas created Star Wars because nobody was making the movies he wanted to see. So if you’re dissatisfied with what you’ve been reading recently, maybe it’s time to write the book you’d want to read!
Second, the beauty of a first draft is that nobody — ever — has to read it. Stephen King calls it “writing with the door closed.” Your handwritten sketches and scenes are just for you, which most writers will tell you is incredibly liberating.
If blank books are a little too overwhelming, check out the One Line a Day Memory Book, or Adam JK’s 1 Page at a Time. These cool journals offer guidance and humor, giving the user a place to start in their journaling practice.
Now that fall is here, we’re looking forward to time spent in cozy reading spots. How about you? And rest assured, Goodly has what you need to enhance the experience! Make sure to check out everything at Goodly, because we’ve got tons of other gifts readers and writers are bound to love.
